If you research catalogues to find the origin of this movement, you inevitably come across the elementary clue that this movement must have been made by LeCoultre between 1870 and 1920. LeCoultre, then-supplier of minute repeaters for almost all prestigious manufacturers, had a characteristic positioning of the two hammers that is only to be found on LeCoultre movements of this era. Normally you can see a LeCoultre signature under the hammers on the plate when the hammers hit the gongs, but that is not to be found on this movement – something that can have a variety of reasons. But the simplest explanation is that the original buyer of this movement did not desire to have this type designation on his or her watch. The slightly uncertain identification in no way scratches the vintage movement’s gloss – and above all, the sound.
